The Shack continued...

It's been a few weeks since I have spoken about the book The Shack. I have a few things to clarify about this book. I read this book about 3 weeks ago and as an evangelical christian, I was moved by this fiction story. I like the relationship of the trinity portrayed by the author. He validates the fact that there are three persons in the trinity all with different roles, yet still one God. I like that.


If you are using this as a witnessing tool, however, there is no mention that Mack accepted Jesus Christ as his personal saviour. As a christian, I assumed this in the beginning, but it is not clear to a person who has not yet met Christ.
I was a little leary about the fact that God is a big black woman! I believe the Bible is clear that God is male. He should be addressed as Almighty Father and Lord. I do think it's okay to let our human hearts understand Him as a Papa-like character. This helps us understand the depth of His love for us.

Jesus doesn't have to be a perfectly beautiful human on the outside, only on the inside. We don't know what he actually looked like!

The Holy Spirit is with us through everything we go through. When we realize we are sinners and accept that a perfect Jesus had to die in our place in order to redeem us; it is then that the Holy Spirit comes to us and is there to comfort us. He is there even if we don't believe, but, we are now aware of His presence after we are saved.

The character of Jesus in the book makes a comment that He died for everyone even the Jehovah Witnesses, Muslims, Hindus, etc.. He still died for all even though they don't believe it. But, we still need a personal saviour. We have to admit we are sinners and accept Jesus personally or we don't get to heaven! Young left that part out!

The imagery and the waterfalls, the gardens and papa cooking is all the fiction part of the story.
