Run recap..

Happy Thanksgiving!

The day started out with the Turkey Trot 10k run on a cold 39 degrees and rainy with a flurry here and there. I got up and was psyched!! I had run the route before so I had an idea of what I was getting into for my first 10k(6.2miles) race. I started running with the pack and picked up the pace a little in the beginning to cover some ground.
Well I felt really good the first 4 and half miles and then I started slowing down and just wanted to finish.

God had another plan for me that day because 150 yards from the finish line I felt dizzy and walked a few steps and started to jog just to finish. I could see the finish line from where I was and then I collapsed and passed out. A very nice woman picked me up in her car and carried me across the finish line and then I got to ride in an ambulance for the first time ever. I don't remember much about how I got from the point on the trail to the ambulance. I was fading in and out and I was scared!!! I was dehydrated and coming down with something at the same time. They gave me some drugs to keep me awake. I couldn't move my arms or legs they were numb! I kept fading in and out and couldn't move most of the ride to the hospital.

When I arrived I finally saw Hugh's face and I felt so comforted. He was his usual self joking with all the paramedics trying his best to let me know it was going to be okay. Now I am just thankful for my life. They took me in and ran tests, EKG, blood tests and all was well except my electrolytes were out of balance. The doctors gave me some fluids and I started to feel my hands and feet again... That was a relief!

My whole thanksgiving day was spent not being able to keep even water down all day. I finally could drink some water and suck on some pretzels at 7pm. I rested the night and had some soup friday morning and I am feeling better. Very wiped out but on the mend.

I keep running the day through my head to figure out what I did different and to avoid the situation again. I realized I had 3 glasses of iced tea the day before and caffiene works against you. I should have had green tea. What was I thinking?

I had a visit with the doctor monday(today) to go over my blood tests. He gave a clean bill of health. There was only one alarm, the test for kidney function was a little high due to lack of water, so I have to have another blood test in 2 weeks to make sure it is in good range. NO caffiene and no running for two weeks then It's back to life!!

I don't know why this time was so different, but there is a reason!! This was a learning experience for me. I will run it again next year and start out a little slower, where less layers and drink lots of water!!

Hope your thankgiving was better!!
