I am reading a book by John MacARthur called "The Truth War". I love this book! It reassured me of the need to stand for truth and to keep a strong discernment between right and wrong in today's world. He references:
Phillipians 1:9-10 "This I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ.
There are many issues that our church family and friends, past and present, are struggling with. Not every issue is cast in black and white. For example, there is no list of holidays to celebrate or not to celebrate, or list of what foods or dietary restrictions to follow.(Romans 14:2-5) But many issues are being compromised within the evangelical circles. Scripture speaks clearly against homosexuality and adultery, and about the question whether a believer should marry an unbeliever. These are not gray areas!!(I Cor 5-6)
I conclude, with MacArthur, that sound doctrine divides churches, confronts sin, separates families, judges, convicts, reproves, exhorts and refutes error. The health of the Church depends on our holding firmly to the truth, for where strong convictions are not tolerated, discernment cannot survive!
Stay Strong!
