Why do we do good things?

I got to thinking about why we really do good things.

Do I give to the needy? Why do I give to the needy? For my own recognition or true desire to fulfill someone else's need. Does God enter into the picture? Does this change my perspective on the situation at hand?

Things don't just happen, I believe everything happens for a reason. If God allows something to happen right in front of me, He wants me to respond to his word and not only help them but give an encouraging word and even ask about their eternal destination. There is no room to be shy when God speaks!!

Still WHY?

If I don't have God, then WHY do I do good things or even obey rules..?

Maybe selfish reasons at first. I won't cut them in line because I might get hurt. Or I may not be asked back to the party if I treat people badly.

Some People do them because they think it will win points with God and gain more of a "chance" to get into heaven.

Really, When do the good works count? Sure, I was nice to someone and my heart feels fulfilment, but how long does that last. Sure I taught a Sunday school class, but how long do people remember what I taught.

Can I earn my way to heaven? How much is enough?

Without the blood of Jesus Christ, none of my good works count for anything!!!
If I accept what Jesus did for me on the cross, I WANT to do good things for God and others. It is only then that they count for something!!!! A crown or jewel in heaven, blessings on earth and everything else positive that comes with doing good!

Our works will be tested at the final judgement. If we do not have Jesus Christ to stand with us, noen of our good works will mean anything and we will NOT enter the kingdom of heaven!! Don't wait to ask Jesus into your heart, make every good work count!
