Our latest project has been our pond in the back yard. Hugh is still putting the finishing touches on his masterpiece.
Saturday I woke up at 6:15 in the morning and heard, through the crack in the window, the loudest bullfrog sonata I have ever heard! I asked Hugh, who was now awake too, how many frogs were in the pond? He said probably 5 or 6. Well I got up and went to work.
When I came home Hugh showed me a bucket of 20 frogs or were they toads? I was amazed at the number of frogs we had. He started pulling them out one by one throwing them on the grass and Derek would pick them up and put them in the bucket. I would loved to have seen that! Kira said EWWW Im not touching them! My girly girl!! We took them to a nearby swamp and let them go that night. Home sweet home.
Well the question is still unanswered. How did so many frogs get into our pond? Well here is a science reminder about frogs ~no~ Toads! Only toads, that normally live on land, come back to the ponds to mate and have their young - They swim around for a few days, find their mate and leave never to go back to the pond again!! So they were toads mating in our pond!! They would have left anyway - Oh well, it was fun for Derek to play with them!
