8 days til school starts for Kira and Derek! Today we had so much fun trying on all the clothes that were too short or too tight. Derek was stoked about getting taller!! All of his pants are two inches too short! Well that is two inches closer to the basketball hoop!
Kira is getting into style now, last year all that mattered was comfort, this year baby doll shirts and leggings are the hit. Jeans too. The stitching on the jeans is important. Who taught her that??? They are growing so fast! Last year we got away with clothes until Christmas. Not this year. Thank goodness for Old Navy's 40% off sale!
Kira is loving gymnastics! Shawn Johnson is her idol now!! She has loved watching the olympics with me. I am so glad she is starting to take interest in her own sport. We aren't pressuring her to play softball. Only if she wants too!
Parenting gets more challenging too. As I try to think of ways to motivate my kids, I am reminded myself of the same lessons. We went for a bike ride around our neighborhood tonight and Derek was getting a little tired, Kira was way ahead and I was running between. Derek stopped and said he was getting tired and wanted a push. We hadn't even gone half a mile. The whole circle is about two miles. I gave him intermittent pushes and the Kira wanted some too. She turned around and almost ran Derek off the road. I caught him before he fell, but he was shook up. He wanted to go home!! I said "Don't let one little setback keep you from finishing the bike ride. Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it! You can let that stop you or you can finish the bike ride." That came to mind out of the blue, but apparently gave Derek the motivation he needed, because he took off and said you can't catch me mommy!!! I tried but he was right! We went down an extra culdasac and made it home in no time and then practiced roller skating! Just a little teachable moment.
Never let circumstances take your joy. God's power and love is always with you even if he allows things to happen we don't want. God is most concerned about our reaction. He gives us a push when we need one and carries us when we can't walk. Never let seeds of doubt grow in your heart or your mind. Pull those weeds before they root. Don't worry and trust that God know what He is doing, Just keep going and trusting!!
